Waterfalls Of Kauai

  1. Twin Falls
  2. Kayak Trip
  3. ATV Trip
  4. Blow Horn

We visited a few of Kauai's many waterfalls. We thought you would like to see some of our awesome pictures. Keep in mind each of these falls have Hawaiian names but the names here are the ones I have given them.

Twin Waterfalls 1

The Twins

This is one of the most beautiful falls on the island. These are the falls appearing in the opening of Fantasy Island. As you can see from this picture, the river is split by a large rock causing the twin falls. This photo was taken from the left side of the falls from only a few feet away.

We drove the car on a back roads adventure to gain access to the falls. The road ends in a parking lot here and is one of the few roads that venture towards the center of the island.

Twin Waterfalls 2

The Twins

This picture of the falls was taken from the air while Chris was touring the island in the helicopter. If you look to the left side of the falls you can make out the road and the parking lot. On either side of the falls are wide open fields which really make the falls stand out in the aerial view.

Twin Waterfalls 3

The Twins

This is another aerial view of the Twin Falls. We only spent a short week on the island and were only able to see a very small fraction of all the water falls that grace this beautiful paradise. The center part of the island generally gets well over 400 inches of rain each year. That much rain simply has to go somewhere and this is why the island has so many water falls.

Jungle Falls

Kayak Falls

Mark encountered this water fall on the kayaking adventure. The water fall is well hidden from above by a canopy of trees. To get to this water falls we were first transported by an ATV mule to the backside of a local cow pasture. Then we hiked over a few hills to reach the river, down stream from the falls. A kayak was used to paddle up stream until we reached an area close to the falls. Another short hike took us to the base of the falls where we were allowed to swim if we wished. By the way the water was very cold!

ATV Falls

ATV Falls

This water fall was part of our ATV adventure. We took a tour thru a small cattle farming section of the island on ATV’s. Towards the end of our tour they brought us to this water fall. A short hike down a trail led us to the base of the water fall where we were allowed to swim in and around the falls. The water here was both very cold and red in color. The red color came from the water running thru and across the red soil that is found in several parts of Kauai.

After riding the ATV’s for a couple of hours in the dirt, even red water seemed to have a cleaning effect for those of us who chose to brave the cold. Refreshing was the word being used by those of us in the water trying to convince the sane ones standing on the bank to join us.

Blowhorn Picture

The Blow Horn

The blow horn is not a falls as the water is actually being pushed up into the air. When the waves crash into the shore tubes created by volcanic flow around the island centuries ago fill with water and the air and water inside the tubes are forced out thru holes in the top. It's really amazing the noise that is produced by the water filling and escaping the caverns.
